OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On August 2, 2025, around 1:30 p.m., Statesville Police responded to a shooting on Fifth Street near Highway 70 and found 51-year-old Surtonia Burton in the front yard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital but died from her injuries. Police identified 26-year-old Titeon Burton as the shooter and later located him around 4:45 p.m. When officers attempted to apprehend him, he ran and fatally shot himself as they approached. He was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital. The incident remains under investigation.
