Pennsylvania State Police responded around 10:20 a.m. on August 1, 2025, after staff inside the Carlisle barracks reported gunfire. Troopers found an 83-year-old Shippensburg man lying in the grass in front of the station with a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators confirmed the wound was self-inflicted and determined no threat to the public existed. Personnel secured the scene, and troopers launched a standard death investigation.
