OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/04/2025, Dillon County deputies responded to a barricade situation on Joann Branch Road. Deputies reported that Jimmy Jones, 52, pointed a gun at them and threatened to shoot. SLED SWAT officers arrived on scene and engaged Jones. During the standoff, Jones exchanged gunfire with officers, who then shot him. He was transported to a hospital where he later died. The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation. Deputies involved have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome. Community members expressed concern over the length and intensity of the standoff.
