OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/06/2025 at approximately 10:15 p.m., Pittsburgh Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence in the 4100 block of Murray Avenue in the Greenfield neighborhood. Officers entered the home and encountered 24-year-old Matthew Foster on a stairwell holding a knife. Officers issued repeated commands to drop the weapon. When Foster failed to comply and allegedly advanced toward officers, multiple officers opened fire, striking him.

Emergency medical aid was immediately performed by officers on scene before paramedics arrived. Foster was transported to UPMC Mercy hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m. Allegheny County detectives have launched a comprehensive investigation, including review of body camera footage, witness interviews, and forensic evidence.

Family members and community advocates have requested transparency and timely release of investigative findings.
