On the evening of August 9, 2025, Yakima Police Department command personnel, detectives, and patrol officers were involved in a fatal shooting in downtown Yakima. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the person who was shot or the reason police used deadly force. An internal administrative investigation is ongoing through the Yakima Police Department, and an independent investigation is being conducted by the Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit.
