OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/02/2025, Taos County deputies responded to a disorderly conduct call on NM-522 in Arroyo Hondo. Deputies found 64-year-old Patrick Edward Walsh lying in the street and refusing to move. During the encounter, Walsh became resistant and bit a deputy. Deputy Donivan Byers and a bystander restrained him by force before handcuffing him. Shortly after, Walsh became unresponsive and died while in custody. Officials initially described the cause of death as a medical episode, but the circumstances involved physical restraint. The incident remains under investigation.
