OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
A Washington County deputy, a six-year veteran corporal, attempted to stop a man wanted for assaulting his girlfriend and driving her stolen vehicle. Police escalated a chase that ended on Furnace Creek Road, where the man crashed behind an abandoned house. The vehicle stalled, then accelerated toward the deputy. The deputy opened fire, striking the man, and the vehicle collided with the patrol car before stopping. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control is conducting an independent investigation.
