OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Police responded to an apartment complex on the 100 block of Clubhouse Circle in Idaho Falls regarding a man acting erratically and making suicidal threats. The man, identified as 39-year-old Derrand Zimmerman, returned to the location armed with a firearm. Officers gave commands and deployed a K-9, but Zimmerman fired at police. Two officers opened fire, striking Zimmerman. He was transported to a hospital where he died. The East Idaho Critical Incident Task Force, led by the Rexburg Police Department, is conducting an independent investigation.
