OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

Alaska State Troopers attempted to arrest Charles Hedgers on an outstanding parole warrant in the Meadow Lakes area of Wasilla. Hedgers fled on foot and barricaded himself inside a motorhome bathroom. After refusing repeated commands, troopers breached the door and found him armed with a handgun. Trooper Nicholas Blanchard, a one-year veteran, opened fire and struck Hedgers. Troopers attempted life-saving measures before Hedgers was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation, and the case will be reviewed by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions.
