OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/26/2025, shortly before 10 a.m., Richland County deputies responded to the 300 block of Ovanta Road after reports of gunfire at a residence. Antonio D. Toney had allegedly fired at construction workers outside his home. Deputies engaged him through a window. Toney raised a firearm, pointed it at deputies, and made threats. Corporal Shawn Sullivan and other deputies opened fire, striking Toney. He was transported to a hospital, where he died. The critical incident team is collecting evidence for the solicitor’s office to determine if the shooting was justified. Deputies Sullivan, Boney, and Miller are receiving counseling.
