OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/26/2025 around 3:30 p.m., Seat Pleasant Police, monitoring a stolen vehicle driven by four juvenile males, followed it from a distance while awaiting aerial support from the Prince George’s County Police Department. The officer was directed to disengage before the stolen vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Sheriff Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Highway, colliding with a vehicle occupied by Shaunte Denise Canty and her child. Canty was pronounced dead at the scene. Her child survived with non–life threatening injuries. The juveniles were taken into custody; three were hospitalized with non–life threatening injuries.
