OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On August 28, 2025, two Boone County deputies attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant for unpaid child support at an apartment complex in Walton. The individual inside opened fire, shooting one deputy in the chest and another in the leg. Both deputies were hospitalized and are stable. A SWAT team responded as the individual barricaded inside. After gas canisters were deployed without success, a drone confirmed he was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Residents were evacuated and later allowed to return.
