OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/31/2025, Wilkes-Barre police reported a hospital case involving a physical and sexual assault victim. As part of the investigation, officers attempted to execute a search warrant at a home on Barney and Richard Street. When they tried to enter, a gunman opened fire on officers. No officers were struck. Police surrounded the home, and a standoff followed. The Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team was called to assist. About an hour later, police entered and found the gunman dead.
