James Rosano, 33, was killed by Nassau County police in Carle Place during a domestic disturbance just after midnight on September 3, 2025. His mother called 911 reporting he was intoxicated and refusing to leave. Rosano told her, “Kiss me, I’m going to go outside and die at the hands of police,” then exited holding what appeared to be a shotgun, later identified as a Crosman Legacy 1000 BB gun. He ignored repeated commands to drop it and pointed the weapon at officers. Police opened fire, striking him once in the chest. Rosano was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The New York State Attorney General’s Office is reviewing the case.
