OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 09/02/2025, at approximately 4:40 p.m., deputies responded to the Family Dollar parking lot on Jeffersonville Road in Macon after reports of gunfire. They found 56-year-old Regina Darlene Smith shot and killed in a vehicle, and a 79-year-old man critically injured. Deputies identified 43-year-old Catrell Ford as the shooter. Later that evening, deputies located Ford at a convenience store near Spring Street and Riverside Drive. He ran into nearby woods and exchanged gunfire with deputies. He was struck, transported to a hospital, and pronounced dead. No deputies were injured. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.
