OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 09/07/2025, around 3 a.m., a man identified as 36-year-old Justin Coleman entered the rear personnel entrance of the NYPD’s 73rd Precinct stationhouse in Brownsville, Brooklyn. A female officer confronted him and directed him to use the front entrance. Coleman pulled a 14-inch butcher knife and slashed the officer in the head and ear. Other officers attempted to subdue him with a Taser, but it was ineffective. Coleman fled the building, and police pursued him on foot. Near Saratoga Avenue, he again lunged at officers with the knife. Multiple officers opened fire, striking him. Coleman was transported to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The NYPD Force Investigation Division is conducting the investigation.
