OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Around 12:55 a.m., Atlanta police responded to reports of shots fired at the Four Seasons Hotel on 14th Street NE. Officers encountered Justin Lanier outside the hotel. He attempted to run away, then turned back and moved toward officers. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, Lanier reached toward a handgun on his side. Officers opened fire, striking and killing him. A handgun was recovered at the scene. No officers were injured. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent review, with findings to be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney.
