OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On September 12, 2025, officers from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Fort Wayne Police Department, and Indiana State Police were investigating a suspicious vehicle parked near the intersection of Irving Road and Schwartz Road. Police stated that they found 81-year-old William Joseph Peters inside the vehicle armed with a gun. Backup was requested, and officers said that Peters later exited the vehicle and raised the weapon toward them. Officers opened fire, striking and killing him. The incident remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police.
