On September 15, 2025, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance at a church on the 15000 block of National Trails Highway in Helendale. The man barricaded himself inside a vehicle in the church parking lot, initiating a standoff with deputies. After hours of failed negotiations, deputies reported that the man exited the vehicle armed. Deputies opened fire, killing him.
