OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On September 3, 2025, Fort Smith police responded to a church disturbance near 1900 N 62nd Street. Officers reported that Christopher Cody Burns, 41, had crashed a stolen car nearby. Burns was taken into custody and placed in a patrol vehicle for transport to the detention center. Upon arrival, officers discovered him unresponsive in the back seat. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating.
