On 09/22/2025 around 4:14 a.m., a Hampton police officer went into a Royal Farms convenience store in the 4000 block of West Mercury Boulevard while an attempted robbery was in progress. Inside, the officer encountered a man armed with a firearm. The officer opened fire, striking him. The man was transported to a hospital and later died. A female suspect involved in the robbery was arrested nearby.
