On 09/25/2025, New York State Police pursued a 2010 Jeep Liberty driven by 44-year-old Joseph Damico on Route 5 in Dunkirk. The six-minute chase ended when Damico’s vehicle rear-ended a Toyota RAV4, sending both vehicles into a steep drainage ditch. Damico was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was not injured.
