On 09/25/2025 in the afternoon, Valdosta police responded to S.L. Mason Elementary School after an officer observed a man with a firearm allegedly entering the campus. The man was shot by officers and pronounced dead on the school grounds. The identities of the officers and the deceased have not been released. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will lead the investigation.
