OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/15/2025, at approximately 8:41 p.m., Linn County Dispatch received a 911 call of a female lying injured on Washburn Heights Drive. Deputies found the female and learned her son, 67-year-old Oliver Mercer of Lebanon, was reported suicidal at a viewpoint above the Willamette Valley. When deputies attempted to approach Mercer’s vehicle, he fled in his vehicle and a pursuit ensued, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Mercer’s vehicle was redirected into a ditch near Denney School Road and Highway 34. As officers approached, he fired a self-inflicted gunshot to his head. He was transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis but died of his injuries.
