On 09/28/2025, police in Hays, Kansas responded to a domestic violence call after a woman reported her partner had rammed her vehicle. Officers and a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper located the suspect, Zane Wickham, at his home on Downing Avenue. A standoff ensued involving negotiators, drones, and tactical teams. Around 6:15 a.m., police entered the residence and found Wickham dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers fired their weapons.
