OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 09/28/2025, Phoenix police responded to reports that David Steinbach was pointing a gun at himself and had fired inside his apartment near 32nd Avenue and Bell Road. Officers evacuated nearby units and attempted negotiations for hours. Around 3:45 p.m., Steinbach exited the apartment holding a firearm and refused commands to drop it. A Special Assignments Unit officer fired, striking Steinbach. He was transported to a hospital and later died from his injuries.
