On 10/01/2025, Kewanee police attempted a welfare check and traffic stop around 8:45 p.m. The driver refused to stop. Police escalated two brief high-speed pursuits, then claimed to have called off the chase. Moments later, the same vehicle crashed into the North East Street viaduct; Alec Dillender, 25, died at the scene. No body-cam has been released.
