OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On October 2, 2025, deputies in Sumter, South Carolina responded to a report of a stabbing. The suspect, Wendell Samuel Chisolm, allegedly stole the victim’s car and firearm, then fled. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, prompting a high-speed pursuit through Sumter, Lee, and Kershaw Counties. During the chase, Chisolm reportedly fired on deputies, who returned fire. The chase ended near Ashwood School Road in Lee County, where Chisolm’s vehicle left the road. Deputies approached the vehicle and a shot was heard; it appeared Chisolm had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey hospital, where he later died. SLED and the South Carolina Highway Patrol have been requested to assist in the investigation.
