On September 26, 2025, Kansas Highway Patrol troopers attempted to stop a 2024 Jeep driven by 38-year-old Tenisha D. Mayberry of Blue Springs, Missouri, for unspecified reasons. The vehicle continued driving, and troopers escalated a pursuit through Ellis County. The Jeep later crashed along U.S. Highway 183. Multiple people were injured, and a 17-year-old male passenger was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Mayberry was arrested and initially charged with fleeing and eluding law enforcement; additional charges were filed following the passenger’s death.
