OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Peters was the subject of a homicide investigation when police arrived at his home on County Road 408 in rural Mississippi County. He barricaded himself inside and exchanged gunfire with officers, killing Sikeston Department of Public Safety Officer Henry J. Franklin. After several hours of negotiation, police entered the home and found Peters dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
