On 10/09/2025, two Miami Police officers were shot during a confrontation with 27-year-old Mason Triana in the Allapattah neighborhood. Police had responded to reports of a disturbance and possible gunfire. As officers arrived, Triana opened fire, hitting a female officer in the ankle and a male sergeant in the knee. Both were hospitalized and reported to be in stable condition. Triana barricaded himself inside a residence, prompting a standoff involving SWAT and armored vehicles. Police used tactical vehicles to breach the home after attempts to negotiate with Triana failed. Following the standoff, Triana was found dead inside. Authorities have not confirmed whether his death was self-inflicted or the result of police gunfire. His brother was detained as a witness but not charged.
