On 10/11/2025, around 3:40 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a white Mercedes on Interstate 580 near Eden Canyon Road in Castro Valley. The driver continued driving onto Interstate 238 toward San Leandro. The vehicle crashed into a sound wall near East 14th Street, killing two occupants. A third passenger was hospitalized with major injuries, and two CHP officers were also injured when their patrol car struck the same wall.
