On 10/12/2025, around 1:18 a.m., deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Michael Lyons of Vicksburg in connection with a missing 15-year-old girl. Lyons refused to stop. Police escalated a chase along Highway 43 near Monticello, where his vehicle left the roadway and overturned north of East Smith Ferry Road. Lyons was pronounced dead at the scene. The 15-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
