Around 12:51 a.m., a New Hampshire State Police trooper attempted to stop a blue 2020 Honda Civic for speeding on Interstate 93 northbound near Exit 12. Police escalated a chase that continued northbound, during which the driver reached speeds of approximately 120 miles per hour. As the vehicle approached Exit 18, the driver attempted to take the off-ramp, lost control, left the roadway, crossed the northbound on-ramp, and struck a tree. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Benjamin Tapia-Gately of Saugus, Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at the scene. Reason for police chase: Traffic violation.
