OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Byram police attempted to stop a Ford Expedition after receiving reports that the vehicle was involved in a retail theft of cigarettes at Dollar General in Terry. When officers ordered the driver to exit the vehicle, the driver refused to stop. Police escalated a chase that continued north on Interstate 55 into Jackson. The chase ended when the Ford Expedition crashed into a black 2014 Nissan at the intersection of Raymond Road and Robinson Road. Two women in the Nissan, a 48-year-old and her 66-year-old mother, were killed, and another passenger was injured. The driver of the Ford Expedition was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The Mississippi Highway Patrol and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are conducting the investigation.
