OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On October 30, 2025, deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office located a 13-year-old boy behind an abandoned mobile home in Cameron after he was wanted for the homicide of his 68-year-old grandmother. When deputies approached the boy, he allegedly fled on foot into a wooded area, grabbed a two-by-four piece of lumber from a nearby yard, and charged at an officer. The officer fired, killing the boy at the scene. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting a review.
