OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 11/03/2025, deputies with the Carteret County Sheriff's Office responded to 1235 U.S. Highway 70 around 6:58 p.m. following reports of a man breaking windows and experiencing a mental health crisis. The man was identified as Timothy Glenn Gaskill Jr., who lived nearby at 1215 U.S. Highway 70. Deputies approached the home, where Gaskill reportedly advanced toward them with two sai blades before barricading himself inside. The Carteret County Special Response Team was activated around 8:45 p.m. and made repeated attempts to contact him. During the standoff, police shot Gaskill who was pronounced dead at the scene. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.
