OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 10/24/2025, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers responded to a domestic battery call at a residence on the 9400 block of Harriet Avenue in Jacksonville, Florida. The caller told dispatchers they did not want to press charges and that 32-year-old Rashaud Van Martin was schizophrenic and off his medication. When officers arrived, Martin fled on foot, tripped, and was taken into custody. Officers claimed he resisted physically and exhibited erratic behavior, leading them to detain him under the Baker Act for mental health evaluation. Upon arrival at the psychiatric facility, Martin became unresponsive and was pronounced dead. The investigation remains ongoing.
