On November 8, 2025, officers from the McAlester Police Department responded to a welfare check in the 500 block of West Park Avenue in McAlester, Oklahoma. During the encounter, Casey Nelms was seen with a knife and moving toward the officers. The officers then shot him. Nelms was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased.
