OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/05/2025, deputies from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle with a stolen tag. The vehicle stopped on the SC 41 Bridge over the Santee River. Both the driver and a passenger jumped into the river; the female passenger survived, but the male occupant drowned. A deputy and a passerby assisted in rescuing the female. The dive team recovered the male occupant’s body. His identity has not been publicly released.
