OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/23/2024, Bloomfield police attempted to stop a vehicle after an automated license-plate reader alert flagged it as connected to a robbery investigation. The driver refused to stop and police escalated a chase, driving very fast through multiple streets and crossing into East Orange. No PIT maneuvers were reported. The chased vehicle struck another car, then hit additional vehicles including a parked ambulance. The driver died at the scene. The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is conducting the investigation.
