OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 11/22/2025, deputies were conducting an eviction at a home on the 1600 block of Highland Avenue in Vero Beach. Locksmith David Long had been hired to assist with access to the property. As deputies entered, a man inside opened fire and struck Long. Two deputies returned fire and the shooter was wounded and taken into custody. Long was transported to a hospital where he later died.
