On 11/23/2025, officers in Guntersville carried out an operation targeting underage sex crimes. When officers attempted to arrest Jack Andrew Smiley he resisted and fled. Police reported that he presented a weapon during the confrontation. Officers fired and he died at the scene. Two additional individuals were arrested during the operation.
