On 12/04/2025, officers in Oklahoma City attempted to stop a man driving without a license plate near Southwest 59th Street and South Pennsylvania Avenue. The driver refused to stop and police escalated a chase that ran several miles north on Interstate 44 toward the Oklahoma City Fair Park at very high speed. Officers followed as the car continued on Interstate 44 eastbound and tried to exit at Northwest 23rd Street. While exiting, the driver lost control, overcorrected, and crashed into a concrete barrier. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. Police stated that they were following behind the vehicle when it crashed and there were no reports of a PIT maneuver or deliberate contact by patrol cars. Traffic on Interstate 44 eastbound near Interstate 40 and Northwest 23rd Street was shut down for hours, stranding commuters and drawing public attention to a fatal pursuit that began with a minor traffic violation and ended with the driver dead as the only person in the vehicle.
