On 12/04/2025, Joseph Allen Harrington was located in Port Barre after escaping from St. Landry Parish Jail the night before. He had fled with two other detained individuals through a deteriorated wall section that had crumbled enough to allow access outside. Residents described heavy police activity surrounding the home where he hid. Deputies attempted to persuade him to surrender as they closed in on the property. Harrington shot himself as they moved toward him.
