OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/05/2025, Tifton police attempted to serve a search warrant at a residence on the 800 block of Lee Avenue. During the encounter, two officers were shot. The man inside the home was identified as Davy Deonte Royal. Police established a perimeter, and a standoff followed involving multiple agencies. Royal later surrendered and was taken into custody. While detained at the Coffee County Jail, Royal was found unresponsive and transported to a hospital, where he later died. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported his death was caused by self inflicted injuries. The investigation remains ongoing.
