OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/12/2025, police from the Port Arthur Police Department began pursuing a vehicle connected to a reported domestic disturbance. The pursuit continued into Beaumont, where officers from the Beaumont Police Department joined. Police chased the vehicle through city streets before it came to a stop near Interstate 10 and Seventh Street. After police approached the vehicle, gunfire occurred between officers and the driver. Police opened fire, striking Ray Vital. He died at the scene. The shooting is under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
