Event : Found dead after police detention during mental health crisis

OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 11/22/2025, Todd Donahue, age 51, died after being taken into police custody in Bradenton, Florida. Donahue called 911 stating that he believed he was being chased by the cartel. Officers later received an additional call reporting a person acting erratically. Police located Donahue and determined he met the criteria for involuntary mental health detention under the Florida Baker Act. Officers attempted to take him into custody for transport to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Police have not disclosed the amount or type of force used during the detention. While being transported to the hospital in EMS custody, Donahue became unresponsive. He was pronounced dead later at the hospital. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the death.
