On 12/13/2025, a person was killed following a vehicle pursuit and standoff with the Arizona Department of Public Safety along Interstate 40 near Holbrook, Arizona. A DPS sergeant attempted to stop a vehicle on I 40, and the driver did not stop. Police escalated a chase that continued eastbound until the vehicle left the roadway and stopped in a desert area near Holbrook. A prolonged standoff followed. During the standoff, gunfire occurred between the individual and law enforcement. Deputies opened fire, and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
