OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 12/17/2025 deputies with the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit went to serve an arrest warrant in the 800 block of Parkersburg Turnpike near Staunton. When officers made contact the situation turned violent and gunfire was exchanged. One deputy was shot in the upper arm and airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Dustin Griffin, was provided life-saving measures at the scene but was pronounced deceased. The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the shooting.
